The San Jose Wolves will put their three-game winning streak on the line Saturday night on the road against the Yakima Valley Warriors.
The Wolves offense is coming off of their best game of the season led by quarterback Omar Jacobs’ six-touchdown performance. Part of Jacobs’ success has been due to stellar efforts from his wide receivers as A.J. Bennett and Reggie Eubanks each have five touchdown catches.
“Our success all has to do with Omar and our line,” Bennett said after last week’s 52-38 win over the Ogden Knights. “When they are on, our job is easy.”
San Jose will face perhaps its toughest test thus far in the season with the 2-1 Warriors. The Warriors present one of the league’s best rushing offenses, averaging 65.3 yards a game behind the leading rusher, fullback Don Chapman. In the team’s three games, Chapman is averaging 57.7 yards a game with seven rushing touchdowns.
The anchor of the Wolves this season has been the defense, especially when the unit’s back has been up against the wall. Led by Marvin Brown’s 22.0 tackles a game and 5.0 sacks, San Jose has the top red zone defense in the AIFA only allowing six touchdowns in fourteen chances for their opponents. In addition, the rabid defense has forced five turnovers with the opposition inside the twenty.
The classic battle of a tough rushing attack against a ferocious defensive front starts at 7:15 pm Saturday night at the Yakima Valley Sundome in Yakima Washington. |
