San Jose's Season finishes in Western Division Championship

CASPER, Wyom---The San Jose Wolves inaugural season came to an end Sunday night at the Casper Events Center at the hands of their toughest challenge.

The Wyoming Cavalry swept the season series and kept the momentum rolling into Sunday's Western Conference Championship as they took out the Wolves 57-37.

Quarterback Matt Strand overshot a few receivers but only threw one interception, finishing 13-25 for 216 yards and 6 total touchdowns.

The Wolves early struggles were underlined by penalties and turnovers and continued throughout the game.

Omar Jacobs’ led the offense inside the red zone before attempting to rush for a touchdown. Jacobs’ got to the goal line and appeared to score before the ball came lost, but the play was ruled a fumble.

Wyoming then drove 48 yards with the aid of an illegal defense penalty. Cavalry quarterback Matt Strand threw for 3 touchdowns in the half to help beef up the lead.

The Wolves appeared to have a touchdown the end of the half when Jerome McGee caught a ball and got the goal line but a huge hit pryed his helmet off and the ball loose with Wyoming recovering to end the half.

Wyoming extended the lead in the third quarter as Strand found Jasonus Tillery twice for scores with the Wolves only answering with a Jacobs' rushing score.

The Wolves only outscored the Cavalry in the fourth, but only by a point thanks to Jacobs touchdown passes to Jayson Boyd and Jerome McGee.

Jacobs finished 15-27 for 278 but was intercepted twice.

The Wolves were penalized 17 times for 80 yards to further the damage.

San Jose's season comes to an end after an incredible 7-1 start but a rough patch in which they never regained their early season momentum. The season will be remembered for the high powered offense and the playmaking defense, but ultimately overcome by excessive penalties. The Wolves were penalized for over 1,000 yards throughout the season and including the playoffs. Their opponents were the least penalized in the league as well.

Wyoming will get the week off before traveling to Baltimore for the A.I.F.A. Championship with a chance to hand the undefeated Mariners their first loss.
