Battle of the Undefeated as Wolves Travel to Wyoming

SAN JOSE, Calif--- It will be a battle of the undefeated Friday night, April 16th when the San Jose Wolves (4-0) take on the Wyoming Calvary (3-0) at the Casper Events Arena in Casper, Wyoming at 7pm.

The Wolves lead the league in scoring offense and are coming off their best offensive performance of the season in which they put up 80 points on the road against the Yakima Valley Warriors. Quarterback Omar Jacobs has been on fire lately, throwing 12 of his 18 touchdowns in the last two games while racking up over 205 yards per game passing. Jacobs’ favorite targets are also tops on the leader boards, as receivers A.J. Bennett and Reggie Eubanks have eight touchdowns each. A large part of that success has to do with the protection the offensive line has provided Jacobs as the quarterback has been sacked just once this season.

Threatening to change that will be the Wyoming Calvary defense, who have allowed a league low 107 points, albeit in just three games. While Jacobs has seldom been pressured, Wyoming’s Rodney Wasche leads the league with six sacks and 7.5 tackles for a loss and will look to pester the Wolves’ quarterback. “Pass protection is one of our strong suits,” said GM/Head Coach Bennie King. “Offensively, we are getting to where we want to be at and our numbers last week are indicative of that.

On the other side of the ball, quarterback Matt Strand and running back Jos Schleusner lead the Calvary offense that has put up 60 points per game, third only to San Jose and Baltimore. Strand has posted a solid QB rating of 105.5 through the Calvary’s first game. “Matt is a veteran guy,” said King. “We will be fine as long as we continue to pressure him and get off the ball like we have, but more importantly we have to make sure our secondary is up to the task this week.”

Schleusner leads another powerful running game against a Wolves’ defense that has not been kind against the ground game.

The Wolves’ D has allowed just 55 total rushing yards and surrendered only 159 yards per game. The unit’s 14 sacks has helped ground the passing game as well, as the team has only allowed 11 passing touchdowns on the season.

The game has plenty of meaning with the winner being the last remaining undefeated in the Western Division.
